Business Continuity Planning

Every business considers the possible scenarios of fire, flood, lightning strikes, and terrorism at some time or other, but thankfully these events are rare, and outside most peoples direct experience. Power cuts however, although less serious happen more frequently and therefore should be treated differently. The Institute of Electrical Engineering have estimated that on average, we all experience one power cut per year.

Keeping the business going during such an event is desirable for any company, and planning for for such an event is practical professional and economic. Power protection equipment will pay for itself in two to three power cuts by saving data, reducing downtime, and eliminating recovery from the event.

The main questions to ask are:

What would be the immediate and knock on effects of a power cut to my company if we experienced one today?

Is this acceptable?

Can we or do we need to do better?
